Robert Kearns: Husband, Father, Veteran, Leader

At just 31 years of age, Robert Kearns became the youngest person ever to be elected to the Carmel Town Board, securing his seat as the highest vote-getter in the 2023 general election. Since that historic milestone, Robert has redefined what it means to be a public servant, bringing a blend of youthful energy, modern perspective, and a relentless work ethic to Town Hall. His dedication to leadership is rooted in his years of military experience as a highly decorated U.S. Navy veteran, where he served multiple overseas combat tours in the Middle East and Africa. His service was marked by distinction, including being honored as the U.S. Navy Sailor of the Year in 2019—a testament to the discipline and commitment he now brings to local government.

For Robert and his wife, Francesca, Carmel wasn't just a place to find a house; it was the community they chose to build their legacy. They moved here following the birth of their first child, captivated by the town’s character and the values it represents. It is the place where they decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives, and that personal commitment fuels Robert’s work every day. He is driven by a desire to ensure that the town remains a place where families can put down roots and flourish for generations.

One of the primary reasons Robert and his family were drawn to Carmel was the town's unwavering respect for those who served. Robert believes that a community is defined by how it treats its heroes, and he has made it a priority to ensure Carmel remains a town that honors its veterans. This passion is reflected in his active role as Vice Commander of the Mahopac VFW Post 5491, where he works to ensure that local veterans receive the support and recognition they have earned.

Beyond his military and civic service, Robert brings a robust professional background in construction and project management to the Town Board. Currently serving as a Senior Operations Manager and Project Manager at a large construction firm, he oversees large-scale municipal projects from inception to completion. His professional expertise allows him to scrutinize town projects with a builder’s eye, ensuring they remain on budget, meet all objectives, and provide the best possible value to taxpayers.

This professional scrutiny was famously put to use during his tenure when Robert cast a pivotal "No" vote on the original Water District #2 project. Driven by a refusal to burden residents with an estimated $28 million price tag, he demanded a more responsible alternative. By pushing the project out to bid and utilizing his industry knowledge, Robert helped identify a solution that reduced the cost to $13.8 million, saving Carmel taxpayers nearly $15 million.

Now, Robert is running for Town Supervisor to bring this proactive, energetic, and fiscally responsible leadership style to the town’s highest office.

Recognized as a Rising Star by the New York State Republicans and one of the Irish Echo's 40 Under 40, Robert believes that Carmel’s best days are ahead. He didn't just move to Carmel; he chose it as his forever home, and as Supervisor, he will work tirelessly to protect the taxpayers and the values that make this community unique.
